THE INTREPID INTERPRETER - Piotr Polozhevets Journalist and poet, Piotr Polozhevets is a vocal witness to the spritual contradictions and political strife in the lives of his fellow Russians. In spite of the constraints placed on writers during the time of communist rule, Piotr persevered in his thought-provoking inquiries. When his country shook the yoke of Communism, at the time of Perestroika, he chose more confrontational topics to publish as Editor-In-Chief of a teacher's newspaper. The Chernobyl crisis impacted him deeply. He made many trips to the nuclear disaster area, regardless of health risks. In the 1990's he toured the United States, researching the impact of various methods used in the religious indoctrination of children. Gravely impacted by the inhumanity and destruction that his career revealed, he emerged a unique and complex soul. Piotr is poet, interpreter and voice, for a land and a people who survived the extreme denial of self. He moves softly and lightly into the new world. He is sculpted here in open stance, intellectually pre-occupied, at home in smaller wings so as not weigh down his already over-burdened shoulders.
